Before becoming a full-time occulture slut, Kristen wore many hats: music journalist, nightclub door girl, art gallerist, and glam metal DJ. Each role shaped her unique perspective on art, feminism, and the esoteric.
In 2013, Kristen founded Slutist, a feminist occult blog exploring the intersections of sexuality, art, and magic. Around the same time, she began teaching gender studies at The New School, where her course The Legacy of the Witch became a cult favorite.
The first sold-out Legacy of the Witch Festival was held at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn. The event fused music, art, burlesque, and a magical marketplace, drawing hundreds of people together to raise thousands of dollars for RAINN.
Kristen’s first book, Witches, Sluts, Feminists: Conjuring the Sex Positive, hit the shelves to both acclaim and controversy. Named an essential feminist read by the New York Public Library, it sent her on a two-year book tour mixing academia, art, and activism.
In 2019, Kristen released her second book, Cat Call: Reclaiming the Feral Feminine, which explores the links between cats and femininity in myth, magic, and history. She spent the rest of the year traveling throughout Europe and the United States, exploring cities and sites associated with the early modern witch hunts.
Witch Hunt: A Traveler's Guide to the Power and Persecution of the Witch was released during the pandemic and became an armchair traveler's favorite before the world opened up again. The book was later awarded Outstanding Historical Book of the Year by the Witchcraft and Occult Media Awards.
With her books translated into multiple languages, Kristen now resides in a rural writer's crypt, crafting new works under the watchful eye of her British Shorthair, Cherie. Her latest project? A dive into occult fiction.
